New Businesses Data Sources

New businesses are generally companies or businesses started within the past two years.

Identifying New Businesses

The easiest way to identify new businesses is to use:

  • Reference USA
    • Use the U.S. New Businesses Database.
    • May apply additional criteria. Note the download limit of 275 records per search.

You can also use our company databases to screen for companies using multiple criteria, including the company's founding year.

New Businesses Statistics

The U.S. federal government and other entities compile statistics on new business formation. You can find aggregated statistics in the following:

  • Statista
    • United States and some global statistics.
    • Search for terms such as “small business,” or “entrepreneur.”
    • Pay attention to the source of the statistic so you can find additional information. For example, this chart came from the Kauffman Foundation.
