Create a List of Startups in an Industry

Recommended options are listed here, but Ask Us for more specific help.

Note: Most keyword searches will only pick up words in the company's bio or description. If you want to be more exhaustive, you should also use the options to search by industries or verticals.

  • PitchBook – see Pitchbook access help
    1. In the left menu go to Screeners > Companies & Deals.
    2. Go to the Industry tab. Enter keywords and/or select Industries and Verticals.
      • Note: this will search metadata (e.g. keywords and tags) that have been applied to a company.
      • If needed, refine by additional criteria.
    3. In the upper right select Search. Go to the Companies tab.
    4. Check the boxes next to the relevant companies. In the upper right, select the save icon and Save Companies to List.
    5. Continue searching to find and add more companies to the list.
  • CB Insights – see CB Insights access help
    1. In the left menu, select Advanced Search > Company Search.
    2. Under Company Attributes, enter one keyword/phrase at a time to search the company's description. If needed, refine by additional criteria.
    3. Select See Results. Check the boxes next to the relevant companies and +Add To a collection.
    4. Continue searching to find and add more companies to the collection.
  • Tracxn – see Tracxn access help (Stanford GSB only)
    1. In the Products menu go to Explore Databases > Companies.
    2. Use the options in the left navigation to limit to a specific universe.
    3. Use the filter options above the results to search by date, location, investment type, sector, etc.
  • PrivCo – see PrivCo access help (only covers U.S. companies)
    1. In the left navigation click on the magnifying glass icon to open the Advanced Search.
    2. Use the filters to search by keyword, location, industry, etc.
    3. Select results to add to a watchlist or export to Excel.
