Company Founding Dates

Company founding and incorporation dates are usually two different dates. For example Microsoft was founded in 1975 but was incorporated in 1981.

Below are a few places you can find these dates for an individual company and to create a list of companies founded or incorporated in a specific date range.

Founding Dates

  • D&B Hoovers
    • For an individual company, on the company's profile page to go Corporate Highlights.
    • To build a list of companies founded in a date range:
      1. Go to Build a list. In the Company Type section, expand Core Info and in the Year Founded section enter a range.
      2. Add any other desired fields and press Done.
  • Capital IQ – see Capital IQ access help
    • For an individual company, on the company's profile page look under the company title.
    • To build a list of companies founded in a date range:
      1. In the top menu bar select Screening > Company Screening.
      2. In the Company Details box in the lower left, select Company Statistics. Scroll down and select Year Founded, add the desired range, and press Add Criteria.
      3. Add other screening criteria such as geographic location or industry classification, etc. and press View Results.

Incorporation Dates

  • Orbis – see Orbis access help
    • For an individual company's incorporation date, on the company's profile page go to Company profile > Legal Information.
    • To build a list of companies founded in a date range:
      1. On the Orbis homepage, in the Find a Search Criterion search box on the right, enter Incorpration and select Year of Incorporation.
      2. Add additional search criteria as needed and select View Results.
