Board of Directors Composition Data Sources

Information and data on public companies' executive boards composition (who the board members are, how many there are, number of women, etc.) can be found:

For Individual Companies

  • Capital IQ
    • Enter company name in search box and on company landing page, look in left hand navigation menu for People > Board Members.
  • FactSet
    • Choosing FactSet Web module, enter in Company name in search box and on company landing page, look in left hand navigation menu for Activism, Management and Governance > Management & Board.

For Large Datasets

  • ISS in WRDS - Covers S&P 1500 companies and includes variables related to individual board directors (e.g., name, age, tenure, gender, committee memberships, primary employer and title, etc.).
    • Log into WRDS and select ISS > Directors.
    • Fill out the Web Query Form (see instructions).
    • Some popular variables used are:
      • Female?
      • Ethnicity
  • GMI - Provides proxy data captured through June 30th of each year since 2001 on over 3,000 US companies and contain approximately 225 unique data points.
    • Log in WRDS and select MSCI (formerly KLD and GMI) > Directorships.
    • Fill out the Web Query Form (see instructions).
    • Some popular variables used are:
      • DirGender
      • DirYrofBirth
      • DirStatus
