Venture Capital / Private Equity Funds and Fund Performance

There are many places you can get lists of — or information about — venture capital and private equity funds.

For General Research & Information

  • Preqin – see Preqin access help (the best option for detailed performance and return data)
    1. In the top navigation menu, go to Search For and select Funds.
    2. Use the filters at the top of the page to add search criteria.
  • PitchBook – see PitchBook access help
    1. In the left menu go to Screeners > Investors & Funds.
    2. Use the tabs to add search criteria. In the upper right select Search.
    3. Note: Most return/performance data is not available to us as academic subscribers.

For Large Datasets

The above resources limit downloads, so these are the best options when you need a lot of data. If you're a Stanford GSB researcher, contact us so we can talk more about your research and available sources.

About Preqin Data

Preqin has more return data on PE funds than VC funds.

Performance data is provided to Preqin directly from Limited Partners (LP's) and/or by FOIA requests to collect fund level returns for public pension plans. View the Preqin Data Guide for more information.
