Connect to Stanford's VPN for Library Resources

Note: There is currently an issue with the CardinalKey-Full VPN Group. Please use the Stanford-Full Group to access GSB Library resources remotely.

You rarely need to connect to the VPN to access library resources. Generally, using the links on the library's website (such as the databases page) will authenticate you as needed and provide you access regardless of your location.

However, if you do need to use the VPN, here's how:

  1. If you don’t already have the Stanford VPN application downloaded, do so now.Cisco Secure Client connection using the Stanford-Full VPN Group
    • Mac OS users must enable “Cisco Secure Client - Anyconnect VPN Service” in your system settings (System Settings > General > Login Items > toggle to enable "Cisco Secure Client - Anyconnect VPN Service" (see step-by-step instructions here).
  2. Open the Cisco Secure Client application.
  3. Connect to su-vpn.stanford.edu (you might need to enter it or select it from a drop-down menu).
  4. A Duo pop-up window for two-step authentication will launch and may cover the Group profile selection window.
    • If you do not see the profile selection window, move the Duo pop-up window out of the way (do not close it).
  5. In the Group drop-down menu, select Stanford-Full (SUNet ID and password plus two-factor authentication).
  6. Press Ok.
  7. Proceed with Duo two-step authentication.
